If you are someone who spends a lot of time worrying about food....it may be the moment to think about whether or not your eating is disordered. Do you, for instance, eat a very restricted diet because you are worried about putting on weight? Do you tend to eat very little during the day and then overeat in the evening? Are you eating in a way which you know is not good for you? Sweets or ice-cream. Or perhaps both. Are you aware that you overeat, perhaps frequently, even when you know that you neither need nor want any more? Most importantly, do you use food to comfort yourself....to reward yourself....to compensate yourself....or to soothe yourself to help you through the day?
If your answer to some of these questions is yes....you may be an emotional eater.
TMCK is home to Professor Julia Buckroyd, who offers individual and specialised treatments for those of us with these concerns. She will explore, with you, why it may be that your eating behaviour is disturbed. You will think about what your emotional eating does for you and together will devise ways of meeting your needs without using food as a coping mechanism to deal with day to day problems. Julia's new book, Understanding Your Eating : How To Eat And Not Worry, is now available at www.understandingyoureating.co.uk. Julia has years of experience in dealing with issues like this and her profile can be viewed here.
