Profile
Dr Nicola Clayton is a highly experienced and accomplished Consultant Dermatologist with special expertise in hair and scalp disorders. She sees adults and children.
Her NHS practice is based at the prestigious Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, where she runs a weekly paediatric dermatology clinic in addition to managing adult dermatology, skin cancer, and skin surgery. She sees private patients at The Medical Chambers Kensington.
She also specialises in the treatment of a wide variety of dermatological conditions, including eczema, acne, psoriasis, rosacea, skin cancer, and hyperhidrosis, as well as conditions affecting the scalp and hair, such as alopecia areata, androgenetic alopecia, telogen effluvium, and scarring alopecias like frontal fibrosing alopecia.
Dr Clayton’s passion for dermatology stems from personal experience with alopecia areata, which she developed herself. This first-hand understanding of the emotional and psychological impact of appearance-altering conditions has shaped her approach to patient care, ensuring that everyone receives not only evidence-based treatments but also the empathy and understanding they deserve.
She graduated from University of Bristol and holds an Intercalated Bachelor’s degree in Medical Ethics and Law in addition to her medical qualifications. She then completed her postgraduate dermatology training at several world-renowned London teaching hospitals including University College Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, and Barts Health NHS Trust.
With a strong commitment to both clinical excellence and academic research, Dr Clayton has contributed to numerous publications and presented her work at national and international conferences. Her scientific focus includes hair biology and histopathology, which she explored during a research sabbatical in 2013. As a member of several professional bodies, including The Royal College of Physicians and The British Association of Dermatologists, she remains at the forefront of dermatological care and advances.
Dr Clayton provides personalised treatment for each patient, combining her scientific expertise with a deep understanding of the emotional aspects of dermatological conditions, particularly those involving hair loss and scalp disorders.
