Paediatric audiologist in London

If you are looking for an outstanding paediatric audiologist in London, we are here to help. It can be worrying if your child is having difficulties with their hearing, and we specialise in seeing babies and children from aged six months onwards for private hearing test, as well as a range of other audiology conditions.

You don’t need a referral to see us, but we’re also happy to accept them from ENT Consultants, Paediatricians, General Practitioners (GPs), Speech and Language Therapists, and other related specialists. Paediatric audiology: FAQs

This is a hearing test specifically designed for children aged between six to thirty months. This testing technique involves training your child to respond to sounds by looking at a visual reward such as a toy or animated character displayed on a screen.

This is a hearing test method specifically designed for young children from the age of three. In this testing technique, the child is taught to perform a specific action, often through a fun game such as placing a peg on a board whenever they hear a sound. Play audiometry helps assess the child’s hearing abilities in a playful and interactive manner.

This is a simple and painless test that measures how well the eardrum and middle ear are functioning.

Otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) are sounds that our ears produce naturally. This test assesses the function of the inner ear and determines if there are any hearing or auditory issues. An otoacoustic emissions test is commonly used to screen newborn infants and individuals who may have difficulty participating in traditional hearing tests.

It’s best to get your child’s hearing tested if you are at all concerned. As a parent you may have noticed any potential development issues, especially when your child is learning to talk. If your child’s speech or language seems delayed it’s a good idea to get them tested with one of our private paediatric audiologists in London.

Other signs may include your child not responding when you call them, or perhaps speaking more loudly than usual, or challenging behaviour at school or nursery. While you may feel worried about a potential hearing difficulty it’s always best to have any problems identified quickly, so your child can access expert care and support sooner rather than later.

Our experienced paediatric audiologists will always try to make your child feel completely comfortable, but it’s not always easy to predict how they will feel on the day. We recommend the following steps to help your child feel at ease and relaxed:

If they’re old enough, talk to your child and explain where you’re taking them and what’s going to happen in simple terms. Reassure them and consider watching a video or reading a book about the process

  • Avoid naptimes and mealtimes if possible and schedule the appointment for when you think your child will be rested and well fed, and more likely to be cooperative
  • Plan well and arrive early, to avoid rushing and to give your child time to familiarise themselves with the environment
  • Bring a comforting item, such as a favourite toy or a familiar book
  • Be flexible – if your child is not happy during the test, it’s ok to take a break, or even return on another day

Private children’s hearing test in London

We offer private children’s hearing checks for ages four and above to assess that your child’s hearing meets the baseline for normal hearing. We recommend this screening programme for children who have not had a hearing test since birth, and for parents who are looking for reassurance regarding their child’s hearing.

If you are unsure about your child’s hearing or have concerns you can check our Signs to look out for page and see if any of the scenarios apply to your child. In some cases after the hearing check, we will advise a comprehensive hearing test or you can see an Ear Nose and Throat Consultant
