What tests are available for Covid-19?
Tests to confirm illness. If you have symptoms and might have Covid-19, we can’t permit you to come to the clinic so we will offer you a PCR swab test to do AT HOME. You can either have it sent to you or have it collected from the clinic.
Our PCR swab test is manufactured by Abbott and analysed by The Doctors’ Laboratory. It is a nasal/throat swab test which will detect if you currently have an active infection. The Covid-19 incubation period ranges from 1 to 14 days, with most people showing symptoms at 3 to 5 days. Some of the most common symptoms include fever, tiredness, a dry cough and difficulty breathing. There are sometimes skin indications which you can learn about here.
Tests before travelling. You can choose between 2 tests. The Biosynex Rapid Antigen test, a Lateral Flow test, which is taken and processed at the clinic. Results are available within 15 minutes. You can learn about the Biosynex test here. Or you can have an Abbott PCR swab test at the clinic if you don’t have symptoms. Results are available within 2 to 3 days. Please remember to check the type of test required by your airline/destination.
Tests for immunity after Covid. You can have a blood test to check if you have been exposed to the Covid-19 virus. This test measures levels of IGg/IGm, indicating an immune response after exposure to the virus. We only offer the blood draw test at the clinic as it is more reliable than self finger prick test. The results are available within 24hrs.
