Women’s Hair Loss
Hair loss can have a huge emotional impact, affecting how you feel about your appearance and your confidence. It often seems as if there is little that can be done to improve your condition and it can, understandably, lead to stress and anxiety.
Dr Sarita Singh is a Consultant Dermatologist and one of the UK’s leading specialists in female hair loss. She understands the complex factors that underlie this condition and works with a dedicated clinical team, providing world class care and a holistic approach to managing a range of hair and scalp conditions.
What causes female hair loss?
It is a far more common problem than we often realise. 1 in 5 women over the age of 25 suffer from hair loss, with symptoms such as hair shedding, thinning, and alopecia (baldness). The causes of hair loss in women can be complex and are often different to those in men - ranging from hormonal imbalances, auto-immune disorders, dietary deficiencies and psychological stress.
Dr Singh is here to help – she is a renowned dermatologist and has a reputation for clinical excellence. She is at the cutting edge of innovation in her field, having won multiple academic awards, and is the Research Lead in Dermatology at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
Can female hair loss be treated?
Hair loss in women can often be treated effectively. It is important to diagnose the possible contributing factors and create a personalised treatment plan. This can include topical medication, steroid injections, hormone treatment, and detailed advice on lifestyle changes.
We understand how many women are often too embarrassed to seek help, but a comprehensive diagnosis can be helpful in regaining control and in stimulating hair regrowth.

What to expect when you visit Dr Singh
We understand that hair loss can be a distressing condition, and aim to treat every patient with compassion and the highest level of skill and expertise.
Dr Singh will initially assess your medical and psychological history, spending time discussing any lifestyle and emotional factors which may be contributing to the problem. She will then carry out a clinical examination, including scalp dermoscopy, a non-invasive process using a specialised microscope, to have a detailed look at your scalp and hair.
Pathology tests to determine thyroid function, hormone levels and possible dietary deficiencies may also be necessary. A scalp biopsy may be needed to clarify the diagnosis and inform the most appropriate treatment. Dr Singh will then work with you to create a detailed treatment plan, and discuss options that may be available to you.
