Expecting a baby can be one of the most exciting times of your life. Even if you don’t want to go fully private for your obstetric care, having a dedicated midwife can provide the reassurance of personalised support during your pregnancy.
Rather than seeing a different midwife at each appointment, you will have the full benefit of personalised prenatal care from our experienced private midwife, Sarah Kheirallah, who is fluent in English, French and Arabic.
As well as being an experienced midwife, Sarah is trained in traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture, hypnotherapy, and is currently studying osteopathy. She uses these holistic skills within her consultations, as many mums-to-be prefer to keep everything as natural as possible. She also has special expertise in pelvic floor rehabilitation.
Together, you and Sarah will build a relationship that helps to ensure the wellbeing of both you and your baby so you can prepare for a smooth and relaxing childbirth.
Pregnancy is a time of great change and your private midwife will explain exactly what to expect while you’re expecting. She will answer any questions you have, address your concerns and provide much-needed support. Some examples of common concerns include:
Morning sickness - a common and sometimes debilitating experience. Advice on how to reduce nausea and avoid dehydration is key, and holistic approaches such as acupressure, acupuncture, and hypnotherapy can help.
Bleeding in early pregnancy - spotting of blood is common during early pregnancy and can occur without any risk to baby or mother. Any bleeding should be investigated promptly and, if necessary, an ultrasound scan will be arranged.
High-risk pregnancy - if you have a pre-existing health condition such as diabetes, high blood pressure, uterine abnormalities or are expecting twins or more, our private midwife service can provide tailored monitoring and care.
Pelvic pain In pregnancy - a careful assessment can identify any underlying problems and advise you how to reduce pelvic discomfort.
Advice on birth - for example, can you have a vaginal birth following a previous caesarean section, and how best to prepare for a caesarean birth.
Sarah will recommend what vitamins and other supplements to take, advise on levels of physical activity, and arrange all the necessary blood tests, ultrasounds and other recommended prenatal screening tests.
Prenatal Screening Tests
Our private midwife service is fully integrated with a team of highly experienced professionals. We can arrange:
For more information on the pregnancy ultrasound scans we offer, visit our ultrasound scan page.
Sarah, your midwife, can also refer you to a GP, gynaecologist, obstetrician or other healthcare professional when needed.
Sarah is trained in acupuncture, a complementary therapy that helps treat common pregnancy-related conditions such as:
Acupuncture can help you prepare for labour, and help to naturally induce labour.
We can provide you with a specialist who is trained in hypnotherapy, a complementary therapy that helps you reach an altered state of consciousness, that helps you to achieve a state of profound relaxation.
Hypnotherapy can help you relax, ease anxiety, manage discomfort and allow you to prepare for childbirth with confidence.
It can also support other conditions such as smoking cessation, where needed.
You and your partner will be invited to attend our popular antenatal classes. These classes explain what happens before, during and after childbirth, so you both know exactly what to expect, and have the opportunity to ask questions and address any concerns.
Antenatal classes provide information on all your birth options, so you and your partner can decide on preferences and draw up a birth plan. This is a record of what you would prefer to happen during your labour and after the birth. You can also think about how your birth partner can support you during labour.
Antenatal classes are a great way to prepare for a positive birth experience.
After your baby is born, we can provide support and reassurance as you adapt to life with the new member of the family.
From breastfeeding support to advice about nutrition and weight, we even provide emotional support if you are feeling low or experiencing difficulties bonding with your baby.
We’re also here to advise you on the most effective pelvic floor exercises and how to practice them, providing you with physiotherapy support if you experience urinary leakage. And, of course, to help you as your body adapts to life after birth.
One of our private GPs or gynaecologists can carry out your six week postnatal check and help with your postnatal contraception options.
Our paediatricians can offer developmental assessments, health checks and immunisations for your new baby, too.
