Profile

Dr Nihull Jakharia-Shah is a Consultant Dermatologist with expertise in conditions affecting the hair, scalp and nails, and general dermatology conditions including inflammatory skin disease, eczema, psoriasis, acne, rosacea, rashes, mole concerns, skin cancer and genital conditions.  He sees adults and children and is expert in the advanced therapies now available in dermatology.

He has special expertise in hair loss and scalp disorders, including complex alopecia, and in helping patients understand the cause of changes to their hair, scalp or nails and the many treatment options available.

He practices in the NHS at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, where he works as a Locum Consultant Dermatologist and leads the severe eczema clinic, and privately at The Medical Chambers Kensington .  He manages patients with complex inflammatory skin disease and has extensive experience using advanced therapies, including biologic and targeted systemic treatments for conditions such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis and alopecia areata.

Dr Jakharia-Shah also has an academic interest in hair and scalp disorders. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the British Hair and Nail Society, where he helps coordinate complex hair and nail case discussions, contributes to patient and clinician education, and supports national educational activity in this specialist field. His approach is thoughtful, evidence-based, and patient-centred. He takes time to explain diagnoses clearly, discuss the most appropriate treatment options, and develop personalised care plans. He combines specialist knowledge of inflammatory skin disease, hair loss and scalp conditions with a strong interest in innovation, helping patients access the latest advances in dermatological care where appropriate.

He completed his Medical degree and a Bachelor’s degree in Regenerative Medicine and Innovation Technology at King’s College London, graduating with First Class Honours. He went on to complete Membership of the Royal College of Physicians and the Dermatology Specialty Certificate Examination.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Jakharia-Shah has developed a strong research portfolio at the interface of dermatology, innovation and digital health. His research has been supported by an Alopecia UK grant to investigate the use of machine learning to improve the diagnosis of alopecia. His broader research experience includes work at the Blizard Institute, Queen Mary University of London, where he has been involved in research using novel human skin culture technology for pre-clinical and biochemical analysis.

He has published widely, including in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, and has presented his work at national and international dermatology meetings. His academic achievements have been recognised with prizes and awards from organisations including British Association of Dermatologists, Royal Society of Medicine, Alopecia UK and British Hair and Nail Society.
