Earwax removal and microsuction

We all have ear wax. It's an important way in which our body prevents ear infections. Most of the time, it doesn't cause any problems, but it can occasionally build up frequently causing hearing loss and sometimes pain . This is when ear wax removal is essential and microsuction is now recognised as the best method of getting rid of it.

Private earwax removal

Earwax lubricates the ear canal, traps dirt and repels water, preventing both of them from entering the ear canal where they can potentially cause infection. A little earwax is perfectly normal and there is no need to remove it.

But it can build up due to dry conditions or irritation of the inner ear. Earwax blockage can cause the sensation of deafness, lessen the effectiveness of hearing aids and sometimes result in general pain or discomfort.

It’s important not to try to remove the earwax yourself - usually with a cotton bud or perhaps a matchstick - as you will push the wax back into your ear and you risk perforating your eardrum.

Instead, you should make an appointment with an ear specialist to discuss private earwax removal using microsuction and the best available equipment.

Our ear specialist is a very highly skilled Doctor of Audiology who uses microsuction for the best results.

Ear syringing (or ear irrigation)

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), the health adviser, says that blocked ears should never be syringed because pumping water into your ear is potentially harmful. The water pressure can’t be controlled so NICE now recommends that you see an ear specialist for ear irrigation using microsuction electronic equipment. He/she will also be trained in using a very high-powered specialist ear microscope to ensure that every last piece of wax is safely and gently removed.

Using a very thin medical suction tube accurately guided by a specialist ear microscope, microsuction at The Medical Chambers Kensington is performed by our Doctor of Audiology to safely and painlessly remove earwax buildup. No liquids are used so the procedure is less messy than irrigation and is completed quickly. Our Doctor of Audiology, Dr Alam Hussain, offers microsuction at our London clinic without the need for a referral from your GP or an ENT surgeon. So you need only the one appointment, and your earwax removal treatment is completed by an exceptionally skilled expert frequently within 30 minutes.
